ISCHEM Corporation is a company that non-invasively detects whether or not an individuals arteries have vulnerable plaque-the type of plaque that ruptures, resulting in heart attack or stroke

Need for Products

Death is the 1st sign of cardiovascular disease in 40% of cases
70% of heart attacks result from plaque rupture in areas of little plaque—  present diagnostic methods do not detect problem plaque
National Institutes of Health Consensus Conference states 1 of 5 adults need aggressive therapy for cardiovascular disease

Vulnerable Plaque in Atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is a systemic disease that may occur in any organ of the human body. The disease affects mostly coronary, cerebral, and peripheral arteries resulting in acute or chronic arterial obstruction (stenosis or occlusion). Vulnerable plaques, i.e. vessel wall alterations containing a soft lipid core, calcifications, and fibrous caps are known to be unstable and to have the potential of breaking up spontaneously, inducing acute thrombosis and vessel occlusion . Any acute arterial occlusion on this pathophysiological background leads to infarction of the tissue in the downstream organ. Thus, in the heart, the occlusion results in myocardial infarction, in the brain or carotid arteries in stroke and in the leg in critical limb ischemia and limb loss.
